Appropriation vs Appreciation - Queer Identity in Horror
Project Type
Photography and a Short Film for an Exhibition Piece
Date
2023
Location
Nottingham
Role
I took control over my element of the exhibition piece, this involved planning the images, costume, art direction, location, modelling, and writing the voice over script.
Initially working individually and then
coming together in a team, we created a
fashion anthropology exhibit piece that was
displayed in our main university building.
Our group theme was appropriation within
fashion and my individual piece explored
the appropriation of queer identity in horror
film. For this we conducted a photoshoot
as well as an audio-visual aspect where we
explained each of our concepts. For my
piece I fully curated the shots, designing
the hair, makeup, and costume, location
scouting, sourcing props, editing, and I
modelled too. I valued the creative freedom
here to fully realise my idea from start to
finish and to bring part of myself and my
passions into my work.
